Hosanna Cyberfline - January 26, 2007
It's Friday again, time for another Cyberline.
First, I want to repeat the announcement from last week:
Online Contributions through the Hosanna Web site is now up and running. You can contribute to Hosanna 24/7 by simply going to the Home Page. Look for the PINK button on the labeled "Contribute Online." Fill out the form and submit. You have the option of setting up recurring contributions or one-time payments using checking, savings or credit card. There are also places for special funds.
Other News:
The new RED HYMNALS really are here! They arrived Monday. We will break them in by singing some of our favorites over the next weeks before the start of Lent.
This week there are 4 sign-ups on the back of the green "Welcome" sheet:
One is an order form for "Tripp Smith's Famous Buffalo Wings." The are $12 per dozen; the special sauce is $7 per jar. Proceeds benefit the CREW 2007 mission trip to the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission, to run their VBS program.
Another signup is for the Sabbatical Team to plan for this summer when Pastor Tart will be off "recharging his batteries." A couple of people have signed up, but more are needed.
Third, Care Team is asking for volunteers to transport those unable to drive or not on a bus route to Sunday worship services and/or Wednesday morning Bible study. I have had calls from people asking if someone were available to drive them to the church for worship or Bible study. Again, a couple of people have signed up, but more are need to spread the driving around.
Fourth, Amber is ordering special T-shirts for the CREW, in blue and pink. Sign up so she knows how many to order.
The Hosanna Craft Fair is Saturday, March 3 to benefit the Mulkey Scholarship Endowment. Booth Fee is $50. VENDORS ARE NEEDED TO MAKE THIS A SUCCESS. Ladies, you have a Valentine's breakfast coming, Saturday, February 10, 9 - 10:30 AM at Luby's, FM 1960 at Cali Dr. Tickets are $7.50. Sign up in the Narthex.
The Annual Congregation meeting is Sunday, February 11 after the 11 AM service. There are some important things to discuss, so hang around. There will be food as usual.
February 4: Souper Bowl of caring. The confirmation class will be out with their soup bowls to collect spare change for charity. By the way, last week's collection for Grace Matters, the ELCA radio ministry, totaled $103. Thanks.
Speaking of Grace Matters: I added a link to the home page to the Grace Matters listen online page. You will find live stream, Podcast and MP3 versions. Houston currently has no radio stations carrying this weekly 30 minute broadcast.
Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent, is February 21. There will be 2 services that evening: 6:15 and 7:30. The preaching themes for this year's WEDNESDAY Lenten services are from the 5 chapters of the epistle of 1 John. You might want to read it ahead of time as a way of preparation.
The February Hotline will be mailed out early next week. Here is the web site link:

A LITTLE HUMOR:
Gay's is celebrating her birthday today and the thought made me nostalgic. Here's one for those of us over 40 (those 39 or younger won't understand unless you catch some old time TV on cable):
"Black and White"
You could hardly see for all the snow.
Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.
Pull a chair up to the TV set,
"Good Night, David. Good Night, Chet."
Depending on the channel you tuned,
You got Rob and Laura - or Ward and June.
It felt so good. It felt so right.
Life looked better in black and white.
I Love Lucy, The Real McCoys,
Dennis the Menace, the Cleaver boys,
Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train,
Superman, Jimmy and Lois Lane.
Father Knows Best, Patty Duke,
Rin Tin Tin and Lassie too,
Donna Reed on Thursday night!
Life looked better in black and white.
I want to go back to black and white.
Everything always turned out right.
Simple people, simple lives.
Good guys always won the fights.
Now nothing is the way it seems,
In living color on the TV screen.
Too many murders, too many fights,
I want to go back to black and white.
God they trusted, alone in bed, they slept,
A promise made was a promise kept.
They never cussed or broke their vows.
They'd never make the network now.
But if I could, I'd rather be
In a TV town in '53.
It felt so good. It felt so right.
Life looked better in black and white.
I'd trade all the channels on the satellite,
If I could just turn back the clock tonight
To when everybody knew wrong from right.
Life was better in black and white!
Things weren't perfect two three decades ago, but at least there was no Osama or others like him.
God's peace to you all this day,
Dale Bargmann, Hosanna Parish Communications
